This quote is one of the most important quotes for an athlete to keep in the back of their mind. Every athlete has days where they want to give up and quit because they had a hard practice or lost a big game, but you don’t have that option. You go through countless hours of conditioning and stick work drills to get you to the top of your game and to give all of that up because you don’t perform your best is simply unacceptable. All of that running and all of those drills are what strengthens your game and makes you better. It will be tough, but knowing that all the hard work you put in now will show next week, next month, or even next year is what propels you. Every tiny detail is essential to creating habits on the field so you can’t focus on just the big picture. Working on the little aspects of your game is what will make you a solid player. If you want to make the acts of scoring goals or making amazing saves in goal habits, then you need to get out there and practice them over and over. You aren’t done when you get what you have been working on “right” you’re done when you cannot get it wrong. When you know that every time you’re on attack you’re going to score no matter who that defender or goalie is you have made that act into habit. Striving for excellence is no different. As an athlete you’re going to do whatever you can to be the best player you can be and by creating these habits, you will be successful in your endeavors.
